finally, a quiet moment alone again with my thoughts which are definitely so NOT quiet. my mind is currently on the reading old emails streak and i can't believe i am reading emails from ELEVEN, NO, TWELVE YEARS AGO.
funny how something that is a serious matter to you becomes, well, funny several years hence. couldn't help but laugh out loud at the histrionics in my emails to my friends. now i think i'm sorry i've subjected them to such kaartehan. i think this is some kind of a problem/challenge for people who speak more in writing. i cannot filter anymore what i want to say there, it's like my fingers get a mind of their own and simply fly over the keyboard or possess my pen to create yet another novel-like email/letter. nevertheless, those ancient missives make up for more good writing material and a lot of laughs. lots and lots of laughs. i can't believe i was that stupid then. i'd like to think i've gotten mature over the years but then i'll never grow out of having those stupid moments sometimes.

just finished red queen by victoria aveyard. i've read a lot of YA novels thanks to my cousin B. and because of that, i cannot help but think that there are a lot of similarities here in red queen with, say, the hunger games and divergent. while red queen is more of a fantastical story set in a dystopian society, i could easily see mare barrow alongside katniss everdeen and tris prior. mare may be poor, but she has a personality that could scathe anyone not strong enough to withstand such. and like katniss and tris, she also has to battle her way in a society
that is composed of the bullies (the silverbloods) and the oppressed
(the redbloods). a war is at hand and it shows no sign of ending. guess who gets the short end of the stick in this war? kilorn, mare's best friend who was supposed to be able to avoid conscription by having work but is left without one when his master dies. sound familiar? and oh, an underground revolution is brewing amongst the reds. now guess who inadvertently becomes the face of the revolution? should i start on the romantic interests of mare? uh, maybe not now.
but even if my mind screamed hunger games!!! and divergent!!! in almost every chapter of red queen, i would still say that it is a fun read. trust and betrayal are the underlying themes of this story and ms. aveyard was able to manipulate her characters beautifully especially with that of cal and maven. as i got to the final moments in the story the book became harder to put down. my mind moved from hunger games!!! and divergent!!! to kill them already!!! (of course, this is to cal and mare.) however, because it's again a series just like most YA books these days, i would have to wait until my cousin gets her hands on the other books.
i just have one question. do the characters really have to smirk so much? the word sneer comes in as a close second, but it's not as many as smirk. i actually thought of counting how many times it appears in each chapter (it appeared all throughout the book) and in what tense was it written but then again, never mind.

fangirling over:
jess glynne! still listening and dancing to her songs but more so with hold my hand (which i have currently on "loop" in youtube).
supergirl! i can't believe the season ended before arrow did. i really hope there will be a season 2. while i haven't read anything official about a season 2 for the show, the guys at cbs did say "season finale" and not "series finale" which i think my world will crumble if the latter happened. and the season ending ended with a cliffhanger, so...
arrow! i would say that this fourth season was better than the third one, though not as exciting as the second season (i think this is the best so far). just so heartbroken over laurel... why, oh, why??? i wonder what her haters think of her death now, they were so rabid about getting her kicked out of the show in season 2. i hope the writers make her go into the lazarus pit too, and then she'll get that blood lust and kill damien darhk for oliver. hahaha. there are five more episodes to go and then season 4 ends. please, no more going on hiatus!!!

super bad
note: some spoilers ahead so anyone who drops by here and hasn't watched the latest episode of supergirl, please skip this or read at your own risk. and oh. please excuse the super fangirling. i enjoyed the episode A LOT! hahaha cheers!
Soooooo. All that happened on Supergirl's 16th episode, Falling, were very unexpected. Especially since I did not get to watch the previews. Raised my brows several times, got wide-eyed, and even yelled out in turns in most of the episode as Kara embraced her dark side after being exposed to red kryptonite.
Melissa Benoist gave a spectacular performance in this episode. Her portrayal of Kara is so, so different, which proves what a versatile actress she is. For in the instances when Kara got mad in some previous episodes, I could not help but notice that her face still looked what we call in Filipino maamo--meek and gentle. It was like she hated being angry at people she loved that I wanted to reach into the television and give her a hug and tell her everything's going to be all right. Because hey, let's face it, Kara is the kindest person one will ever meet on TV.
Now the Kara in Falling was a totally different story however. Her eyes were downright cold. She indeed showed everyone in National City how bad she can really get--getting Siobhan sacked, scaring Cat Grant 40 storeys to death, practically wrecking her potential relationship with James, slacking on her D.E.O. duties, turning on her beloved sister Alex, and basically turning into the enemy everybody fears.
More gushings on Falling, randomly listed (because really, it was a really great episode and everyone was awesome in it ^_^):
- Cat Grant, no matter how she can be self-centered and bossy, is a boss grounded in admirable work ethics and values. She is exactly the kind of boss I would like to work for. Now with her relationship with Supergirl, I see she also has a forgiving nature even after being thrown off her own building's balcony. Cat hardly ever shows much emotion, but when she does, it has impact and I'm sure that it means a lot to Kara/Supergirl. I loved the last scene where Cat let Supergirl hang around in the balcony for a bit longer.
- When Cat fired Siobhan, I celebrated with Kara by making a fist pump. Hahaha, so bad! Siobhan's leaving CatCo doesn't mean that she's gone from the show, though. I sense something brewing for her and Kara in the next episodes especially after seeing a snippet of Siobhan and Winn in a preview for next week's ep. A cat fight, perhaps?
- Why, oh why did J'onn not escape when he could so easily have? is the question that still keeps running in my head even after watching the episode's rerun for the nth time. What an honourable being he is for thinking of Kara and Alex's safety. I hope he gets out of detainment the soonest.
- The confrontation between Alex and Kara in Kara's apartment was expected, especially when Kara said the bit about Alex killing Astra. I knew that was coming out sooner or later, in this case sooner. Evil smile as Kara laughed very much like a kontrabida. Another evil smile at Kara's line: Look at the city. They worship me. And those who don't---will. That line reeks of pure kontrabida-ness, if you ask me. Ouch at Kara making Alex cry. But no, Kara did not mean it, she was under the Red K's grip. By the way, digging that new kickass Supergirl outfit!
For a while during the fight scene between Supergirl and J'onn I was worried that there might be a part two since there were a lot of things happening in the episode. Good thing it ended with Kara being restored to her usual kind self. The scene where Kara was recovering from the effects of Red K in the D.E.O.'s infirmary was heartbreaking to watch. The first thought that came to Kara's mind was if she killed anyone, and the realisation that she had hurt Alex and everyone else was unfathomable for her even if she did not mean for everything to happen. Oh, Supergirl.
As always, can't wait for the next episode. :)

super sisters
one of the superhero shows i am following as of late is supergirl. at first i did not want to watch the show anymore
since i was already watching arrow, the flash, and of course law and order:
svu and bones among others. but after watching the pilot, well, one can
say i got hooked again. aside from the kick-ass fight scenes and the story in general, one other aspect of the show that really got me watching is the sister dynamic. i am amazed at alex and kara's interactions,
how they are so affectionate towards each other with all their banter,
teasing, and arguing, and how they got each other's backs when times get
rough. they're big on hugs too!
i especially like how alex goes big sister on kara most times. it's not everyday a girl gets an alien sister and appreciates her for who she is even when feelings of envy and low self-esteem encroach at times. which is why when alex needed comforting, the tables get turned and kara is right by her side in an instant. that much is shown in supergirl's latest episode, solitude. i could really feel the heavy emotions emanating from them, especially from alex who had to keep her killing astra a secret from kara for quite sometime. i can only imagine how hard is that for alex.
hit play for maximum emotional satisfaction!
kara's silent acceptance spoke volumes more than if she said anything.
like i said, they got each other's backs.
i can't wait for the next episode.
