Sleigh Ride

'Tis the season once more for some holiday cheer. Yes, as early as now cos that's how we do the Christmas holidays over in good ol' Pilipinas. ;)

Sleigh Ride is easily one of my favourite holiday songs for the simple reason that it rocks a happy tune. And with the sleigh bells and clip-clopping of horsey hooves in the background, it evokes a perfect picture of a sleigh ride amidst snow-covered fields. For someone who bakes under the sun three-quarters of a year, I can easily imagine I am on a sleigh ride myself every time I play this song.

Fun facts on Sleigh Ride (source):
- This song was not meant to be a Christmas tune. The composer, Leroy Anderson, intended Sleigh Ride to convey the entire winter season through the imagery of a sleigh ride. Still, it quickly became one of the most beloved Christmas songs ever since it was completed in 1948.
- It took almost two years for Leroy Anderson to finish the composition of the song: July 1946 - February 10, 1948.
- Leroy Anderson began to compose Sleigh Ride along with other Christmas tunes during a heat wave and drought in July of 1946. (No wonder I love listening to this during the hottest and driest months in my country!)

The video of the well-loved song features Amy Grant's version. I love her version since her voice has that mature-sounding-yet-innocent quality to it. The first "we" in the line "Our cheeks are nice and rosy, and comfy cozy are we" got me the first time. Weird, but yeah. But hey, this song also led me to listen to more of her beautiful songs. Has Amy Grant then made it to my list of favourite singers? You bet.

And so without further ado.

Sleigh Ride, ladies and gentlemen.

And yeah. I will be eternally grateful to whoever will take me on a magical sleigh ride on a wintery day. When that day would finally come to pass, though, I have no idea. Ha.
