sabato

with all that's been happening en mi vida for over a year now, it should not come as a surprise whenever i tell anyone that i'd rather stay home on weekends, especially saturdays. my favourite hobby as of late is stretching out on the couch and staring into nothing or outside the window. sometimes i read too while lying down. the very few times i've gone out on a saturday apart from arnis training would mean that 1. the person/people i'm meeting that day is/are really, really special to me, and, 2. i have no choice but to go out. case in point: errands!

yesterday was an exception. my cousin B invited me to a talk by a christian women's group called a woman's forum and the topic is who am i? what neuroscience tells us. the title itself was enough to make me go out.

but the invitation also came at an opportune time as i was also getting antsy with my days just revolving around going to work and then home. seeing friends was a challenge, i.e., i'm available when they aren't, and vice versa. so i grabbed the opportunity to get out and meet new people (gasp!). at least my cousin was there. she was also my driver by the way. haha.

so i had a surprisingly good time at the talk. there was a casual q and a after the kinda quick talk on the inner workings of the brain, the mind, and how it relates to our identities in the Lord. and then surprise, surprise, there were breakout groups after the engaging and deep q and a. the atmosphere was really light and everyone was so open and friendly that it wasn't hard at all to open up and share my own insights. i do believe i've gained new friends in attending yesterday's talk, in addition to having spewed out a part of my life story to a couple of hapless ladies.

props to the host for opening up her super lovely home, and to whoever brought that uber yummy ube cheese pandesal, of which i had three! i suspect i know where that came from and i am so going to order a box of that really soon.

======================

on the drive home B and i continued our catching up. turns out i'm not the only one overwhelmed with what's been happening in our personal lives, not to mention locally and abroad. and it's been only eighteen days! it's hard to believe that we're only eighteen days into the new year yet it felt like months have already passed by. we just live literally next door to each other but we haven't seen each other that much except to yell out a random hi. am thankful that we got to talk and unload what's on our minds. the unexpected saturday traffic enabled us to talk longer as well so i can call myself doubly blessed.

======================

the third arnis gathering will be in march this year. i'm already looking forward to it since there will be another promotion. of course if i want to advance to brown i'd have to perfect the techniques. being a sulong (green belt) also means that i can teach newbies the basics, but under supervision. i had my chance yesterday morning to teach basic kuridas and boy was i challenged. thank God coach said i did a good job after observing the newbies execute the kuridas techniques i taught them. i still have a long way to go, that's for sure, but i can only get better with constant practice.

P. S.

domenica:
this is the week, or rather, tomorrow is the anniversary of the day i accepted the three-day project that had my heart in my throat for a week. i mentioned it in a sunday currently post last year.

what a difference a year makes.

:)

sharing the first two songs that have made it into my 2020 playlist: desperado and a bridge by inara george.

i first heard the song desperado on my way home last january 2nd. it was sung by a woman and upon checking, there are a LOT of versions of desperado. and so just like what i did with let's hang on! by frankie valli, i listened to several covers of the song and came up with four favourites: diana krall, susan wong, the carpenters, and kristin chenoweth.

sharing kristin's version here because i just love her so much. :)

now this may sound too shallow, but was happy that i had the tv to myself this morning. was able to watch a back-to-back rerun of the tv show new amsterdam's second season. inara george's a bridge was used in the eighth episode called what the heart wants. what i like about this song is that it's a capella. it also sounds like a lullaby, and it fits the scene in what the heart wants very well. don't ask how many times i've already listened to a bridge today. i'll expect it to pop up in my on repeat playlist on spotify soon. a bridge is the fifth track in the album dear everybody, which i must say is a stunning album. needless to say, i just found my newest fave singer!

A Bridge - Inara George

Are you lonely?
You're never alone
Are you counting every breath?
Aching for some time?
Just a little more time
Just a little more time
Are you lonely?

Can you hear me?
I'm talking out loud
Trying to understand just how it is you feel
But I don't wanna say too much
I don't want to say too much
I just want to be here

Let's build a bridge from your window to mine
String a can to a can
You could call me anytime
Let's make a river and take it down to the sea
Let's build a bridge from your window to me

A wish for you
It's just a simple thing
I wanna see you everyday
I wanna hear my children say your name
It's more a wish for me

Will you tell me?
I want to hear all your stories
You're always grabbing at your life
You're never missing what you need
Oh, that's always how it seems
You open up to anything
Will you tell me

Let's build a bridge from your window to mine
String a can to a can
I could call you anytime
Let's make a river and take it down to the sea
Let's build a bridge from your window to me

sunday currently vol. 47

before i proceed to my currents...

happy new year!

yep. don't care if it's five days into the new year. it's still relatively new, so there.
talagang nagpaliwanag pa eh, noh.
all right, moving on to the topic at hand.

Currently...

reading: just finished the girl who chased the moon by sarah addison allen. it's the last book i bought last year and the first one i read this year. it's also the first book by ms. allen that i've read and i say that the story felt very much like the warmest, most welcoming hug i've ever received. the story kept me stuck on the couch all day yesterday, that's how good the story was. i was riveted by the protagonists' parallel stories which intertwine at some points. but if i were to choose a favourite character, it would be julia winterson. not just because she bakes the most delectable cakes, but because her personality is just so raw and real. her storyline somewhat shows a bit of hallmarky elements without being all-out hallmarky. the magical realism in it is a joy to read as it's not too forced. ms. allen's imagery also teases all the senses. one can practically catch a whiff of barbecue in the air and taste julia's cakes, to name a few. there's just something lyrical in how ms. allen wrote the book.

writing: none. have already done my yearend chorva. my two stories have been stewing in the back burner for almost a year now and they'll remain there until i get my creative writing mojo back. boo-hoo.

listening: to desperado, originally sung by the eagles. and also sung by kristin chenoweth. by susan wong. by diana krall. by linda ronstadt. by karen carpenter. isn't it obvious that i've discovered my very first LSS for the year??? frankie valli's let's hang on now has another companion in my top LSS list.

thinking: of sleep

smelling: nothing.

wishing: for nice dreams. and for my other wish to come true this year.

wearing: sleep wear because oh, it's bedtime. duhhh

loving: my pillowcases. they're made of some kind of cottony material that makes my pillows feel fluffier and more huggable.

wanting: to sleep... heheheh

needing: more sleep.

feeling: okay

sunday currently vol. 61

Currently... reading: Serena on Webtoon.  writing: this. i'm not holding my breath for when i will finally write a decent paragraph that...
