sabato

with all that's been happening en mi vida for over a year now, it should not come as a surprise whenever i tell anyone that i'd rather stay home on weekends, especially saturdays. my favourite hobby as of late is stretching out on the couch and staring into nothing or outside the window. sometimes i read too while lying down. the very few times i've gone out on a saturday apart from arnis training would mean that 1. the person/people i'm meeting that day is/are really, really special to me, and, 2. i have no choice but to go out. case in point: errands!

yesterday was an exception. my cousin B invited me to a talk by a christian women's group called a woman's forum and the topic is who am i? what neuroscience tells us. the title itself was enough to make me go out.

but the invitation also came at an opportune time as i was also getting antsy with my days just revolving around going to work and then home. seeing friends was a challenge, i.e., i'm available when they aren't, and vice versa. so i grabbed the opportunity to get out and meet new people (gasp!). at least my cousin was there. she was also my driver by the way. haha.

so i had a surprisingly good time at the talk. there was a casual q and a after the kinda quick talk on the inner workings of the brain, the mind, and how it relates to our identities in the Lord. and then surprise, surprise, there were breakout groups after the engaging and deep q and a. the atmosphere was really light and everyone was so open and friendly that it wasn't hard at all to open up and share my own insights. i do believe i've gained new friends in attending yesterday's talk, in addition to having spewed out a part of my life story to a couple of hapless ladies.

props to the host for opening up her super lovely home, and to whoever brought that uber yummy ube cheese pandesal, of which i had three! i suspect i know where that came from and i am so going to order a box of that really soon.

on the drive home B and i continued our catching up. turns out i'm not the only one overwhelmed with what's been happening in our personal lives, not to mention locally and abroad. and it's been only eighteen days! it's hard to believe that we're only eighteen days into the new year yet it felt like months have already passed by. we just live literally next door to each other but we haven't seen each other that much except to yell out a random hi. am thankful that we got to talk and unload what's on our minds. the unexpected saturday traffic enabled us to talk longer as well so i can call myself doubly blessed.

the third arnis gathering will be in march this year. i'm already looking forward to it since there will be another promotion. of course if i want to advance to brown i'd have to perfect the techniques. being a sulong (green belt) also means that i can teach newbies the basics, but under supervision. i had my chance yesterday morning to teach basic kuridas and boy was i challenged. thank God coach said i did a good job after observing the newbies execute the kuridas techniques i taught them. i still have a long way to go, that's for sure, but i can only get better with constant practice.
